Printed Workbooks for Schools

Printing engaging, durable and easy-to-use educational workbooks for students and teachers.

The Project

When a Multi Academy Trust (MAT) needed a series of printed workbooks for students across multiple year groups, they were looking for something practical, consistent and durable enough for everyday classroom use. St Austell Printing Company worked closely with the team to produce a range of high-quality educational workbooks that balanced usability, durability and cost-effectiveness.

Key Challenges

The Trust wanted to move away from photocopied worksheets being glued into lined exercise books, with the aim of reducing paper waste, improving consistency across teaching materials and creating a better learning experience for students.

The project also needed to work within tight education budgets and timescales, with multiple workbook variations required across several year groups and subjects.

The Print Solution

To ensure the printed workbooks were practical for classroom use, we recommended A4 stitched booklet binding, with a maximum of 80 pages, allowing pages to lie flat on desks and making them easier for students and teachers to use throughout lessons.

We also advised on heavier uncoated paper stocks to ensure durability cover materials and to help the workbooks withstand the writing and regular handling in busy classroom environments while still remaining cost-effective for larger print runs.

The finished educational workbooks provided a more structured, professional and consistent resource for both students and teaching staff.

The Result

The completed workbook series gave the Trust a cohesive set of printed learning resources that felt professional, easy to use and built for everyday classroom life.

“The quality of the workbooks was excellent and the whole process was incredibly straightforward. The finished books feel professional and practical for both students and staff.”

Why Print Still Matters in Education

In an increasingly digital world, printed learning resources continue to play an important role across schools, colleges and universities. Printed workbooks, revision guides and classroom resources help support focus, engagement and long-term retention in ways that digital learning alone often cannot.

Research consistently suggests that printed materials can lead to stronger educational outcomes, encouraging more active learning behaviours such as handwriting notes, highlighting key information and physically reviewing content. These actions can improve understanding, memory and comprehension. A recent article by Two Sides about The Changing Classroom highlights how classrooms in Sweden have already moved to a more balanced approach.

Printed workbooks also help create consistency across teaching resources, support accessibility requirements and provide a more structured learning experience across subjects and year groups.
