Lucy Everett (18) and James Richards (17) have joined SAPC through an apprenticeship scheme facilitated by the British Printing Industries Federation (BPIF).
Lucy has joined as an apprentice print operator and James as an apprentice bindery assistant. They are the only BPIF apprentices in Cornwall.
The apprenticeships offer an opportunity for James and Lucy to learn new skills hands-on with both the experts at SAPC and tutors from the BPIF. Based in our purpose-built factory, they are using state-of-the-art equipment to help fulfil jobs for companies across the UK.
Operations Manager Beth Mayman said: “We’re very pleased to welcome Lucy and James to the team. Both have settled in well and are already showing a significant amount of development in a short space of time. These are skilled jobs that will offer excellent long-term careers and opportunities.
Beth continued: “We take pride in developing our team. Many members of staff have been with us for at least 10 years, some for over 30. We look forward to sharing in Lucy and James’ professional development.”
James has joined SAPC straight from school. “I’d been looking around for jobs with other printing companies, but SAPC looked like the best of them all and good to work for.” he said.
“I’ve enjoyed my time so far, it’s been a tough learning curve but everyone has made me feel welcome and taken the time to show me what to do.
Lucy, who recently completed a photography course at Cornwall College has lived in St Austell for her entire life and was looking for career opportunities locally.
“I really liked the idea of an apprenticeship as it enables me to learn a new trade as well as getting paid.
“With my initial training I am now able to print on the single-colour machine and I am continuing to learn more about handling paper.”
Managing Director Peter Moody, said: “As a family-run company with a commitment to both our local economy and the manufacturing sector in general, we feel it’s important to support local talent and develop the next generation of printing experts.
“Our company continues to evolve and grow as businesses and organisations choose print as an integral part of their marketing mix.”
Peter continued: “Since moving into our new factory five years ago we’ve won a number of remarkable contracts and continued to grow our team. James and Lucy are valuable additions and it’s great to see them both already developing well.”
