SAPC 2026 Calendar with Falmouth University Students Celebrates Restoration

Calendar with Falmouth University 2026
For the last 10 years we have been collaborating with Illustration and Graphic Design students from Falmouth University on a project focussed on celebrating design and the purpose of print.

This Year’s Brief: Restoration

This year’s brief was ‘Restoration.’ This brief was designed to explore how restoration, whether in nature, communities, or in ourselves, can inspire hope, action, and love for the world and people around us. We wanted the students’ art to motivate viewers to believe that renewal is possible and worth striving for.

The students, as always, have done an incredible job of doing just that. From animal habitat restoration to the St Austell Up-Cycle Fair, we’ve been so impressed with the diverse range of themes, styles, and media used.

Bold Ideas from Falmouth’s Design Students

“The calendar project is a highlight of our year and we’re always so excited to work with such talented students at Falmouth University,” said Becky Dibb, Designer and Customer Service Manager at St Austell Printing Company. “Each year, the students expose us to an incredible breadth of creativity. They are often more experimental and unafraid to push the boundaries, which leads to bold ideas, unexpected interpretations, and work that really brings the brief to life.”

“Our students impress us every year,” said Natalie Hayes, Senior Lecturer in Illustration at Falmouth University. “They understand that these are real clients, that this is a real brief, and if they are chosen, their work is going to be seen in the calendar. For them, it’s the first taste of what it’s like to work as an illustrator.”

The partnership between SAPC and Falmouth University continues to go from strength to strength, encouraging the connection between creative industries and local higher education, helping to nurture the next generation of design talent in Cornwall.

Championing Plant One Cornwall

This year, we’re proud to feature Plant One Cornwall in our calendar. We have supported Plant One for the last 5 years and this year’s theme felt like the perfect opportunity to showcase Plant One and the incredible work that they do to restore habitats in Cornwall and the Celtic Rainforest. You can learn more about their work at plantonecornwall.com

Choosing the Winning Designs

A total of 15 winning designs are selected – including the twelve months, the front cover, ‘the brief’ page and this year we added a page for Plant One.

Beth Mayman, Operations Manager of St Austell Printing Company added, “Choosing the final pieces is always the hardest part. We’re not just choosing the best individual pieces. We’re curating a collection. It needs to feel balanced across the year, reflect the seasons, and bring together a range of styles.”

From Design to Press: A Factory Tour for the Students

Following the announcement of the winning illustrations, the students are invited for a full tour of St Austell Printing Company’s sustainable factory, where they’re given the unique opportunity to learn all about the print and bindery process, in addition to seeing their work come to life on the litho printing press.

“As always, it has been wonderful to work with the Illustration and Graphic Design students at Falmouth University. We are so happy with how this calendar has turned out and all the winning illustrators should be so proud of themselves and their work!”
