Did you know that paper is the most highly recycled material in Europe? In fact, 79% of paper and 83% of paper packaging used here is recycled into new products.

SAPC Are Supporting Love Paper Week 2025

There are many misconceptions relating to paper, print and paper-based packaging. From 3rd to 7th February, we are taking part in Love Paper Week.

Love Paper Week is an initiative from Two Sides to help spread the word that paper is actually a very sustainable medium, as it is both recyclable and renewable.

Recyclable and Renewable

On average, paper is recycled 3.5 times before it needs to be replaced by fresh fibre. It is also renewable, and over 90% of the wood fibre used in the European pulp and paper industry comes from fast-growing European forests. Paper production is also sustainable, with over 62% of the power used by paper factories in Europe coming from renewable sources.

Sustainability of Digital vs Print Communications

It is also important to remember that digital communications have significant environmental impacts.

A report from Nature in 2024 estimated that just the electricity used to run online activities accounted for around 40% of the per capita carbon budget, how much each person can emit to stay within global warming limits. This is added to by the environmental damage involved with producing devices and disposing of electronic waste.

Lots of Reasons to Love Paper

Whilst sustainability is at the heart of this campaign, there are of course many more reasons to Love Paper. Whether you are looking to solve a work problem, quickly write something down, stimulate new ideas or create something beautiful, paper remains the most effective and attractive medium.

If you would like any help with your next print or paper-packaging creation, do get in touch. Alternatively, catch up with Beth at the South West Tourism Conference on 5th February where she will be talking about the campaign.
